Municipal Association of Nepal in association with CITYNET Japan, CITYNET National Chapter – Nepal, and Public Private Partnership for Urban Environment (PPPUE), and Seoul National University, ICTP planned an "International Training and workshop on Management of Urban Infrastructure and Services: Transport System through Public Private Partnership" for December 27 -30, 2008. However for various technical reasons a two-day Training Workshop on Urban Transport Planning and Management has been organized on February 12-13, 2008 under the joint organization of Municipal Association of Nepal, CITYNET Japan, CITYNET National Chapter –
, and Public Private Partnership for Urban Environment (PPPUE).
The training workshop was intended to provide a forum for sharing present scenarios and problems of urban transport in Nepalese municipalities, briefing of initiatives of concerned government agencies, and for transferring knowledge and sharing experience particularly from
Seoul, . The training was organized on a residential basis and participants were from Nepalese municipalities, concerned stakeholder agencies, and from engineering consultants.
The training workshop was participated by municipal officials of various municipalities and government agencies, engineers of some consulting firms, and an inspector of traffic police.
Learning from the works done by Seoul on sustainable urban transport many participants of the workshop and the presentation later at Department of Roads felt that we can initiate some activities for improving the urban transport situation of
Kathmandu
Valley . Thus MuAN together with other major stakeholders will discuss this issue in near future in order to conceptualize a project for urban transport improvement of
Kathmandu
Valley . It is also thought useful to present the Seoul's case once again to the greater audience of
Kathmandu . Permission from Dr. Kim to that effect has already been taken. It is expected that the stakeholders will come to a consensus regarding the need of an initiative in this regard.
