Mission: ICLEI's mission is to build and serve a worldwide movement of local governments to achieve tangible improvements in global sustainability with special focus on environmental conditions through cumulative local actions.

Major Functions:

  • Share expertise with local governments on sustainable development
  • Collaborate with local, state and national governments to support local governments and forge alliances in their areas of interest
  • Voice city issues at carious state, national and international events and for a
  • Initiate interaction among cities to learn from each others’ experiences
  • Mobilize funds, technical solutions and expertise to local bodies
  • Work with non-government organizations, developers, manufacturers, industries, etc.

Working Areas:  Sustainable Development, climate change, water and air pollution, waste management, energy, sustainable transportation, disaster management, environmental management systems, urban environment
