CITYNET-UNMC-MuAN Joint Office is an office established under the agreement of cooperation between CITYNET, the Regional Network of Local Authorities for the management of human settlements, United Nations Millennium Campaign, and Municipal Association of Nepal as agreed in the Training Workshop on localizing Millennium Development Goals in Asian Cities organized on March 23, 2007 to speed up localization of Millennium Development Goals (see Box 1) in Asia. The office is located at the office of Municipal Association of Nepal, which is also the secretariat of the CITYNET Nepal Chapter. The UMDGs-8 ways to change the World (see Box 2), the 'Mumbai Declaration 2004' (see Box 3) and the 'Kathmandu Plan of Actions 2007' (see Box 4) have provided the principle guidelines for this initiative.
The purpose of the Joint Office is to contribute in making recognize the need for local governments and local actors in campaigning for the achievement of MDGs, to strive towards the implementation of the 'Mumbai Declaration on MDGs' and 'Kathmandu Plan of Actions'.
The Joint has the following two prime objectives:
- To develop MDGs-oriented local governments and MDGs campaigners, particularly in South Asia region to speed up the realization of the MDGs in their respective cities and countries.
To urge local governments to produce their own mid-term and an annual basis MDGs review reports and to advocate that their input be included for national reports as well.
