The four year project SWASHTHA – Strengthening Water, Air, Sanitation, and Hygiene Treasuring Health is being carried out in seven municipalities of Nepal (Bharatpur, Butwal, Tikapur, Gularia, Ratnanagar, Ramgram and Siddharthanagar) and three small towns (Bardhaghat, Kawasoti and Sunawal) in partnership with Practical Action Nepal, ENPHO and MuAN with the financial support from European Commission, UN-HABITAT and Isle of Man Government, UK. The overall objective of the project is to contribute to sustainable improvement in health and well-being of vulnerable population especially, women and children residing in urban and peri-urban settlements of project municipalities and small towns. While the specific objective is to develop and promote integrated approaches by addressing major environmental health risks, such as indoor air quality, water quality, sanitation facilities and hygiene behaviours to create healthy homes and benefit 30,000 women and children. This report is, however, provide an update of activities carried out by MuAN under SWASHTHA project from July to September 2011.
