Stand Up and Speak Out Against Poverty and for MDGs October 16 + 17, 2007
Stand Up and Speak Out is the growing movement of people no longer prepared to stay seated or silent in the face of poverty and inequality. On October 16 and 17, 2007 cities and local governments and various urban stakeholders throughout the world will STAND UP and SPEAK OUT for one minute to show their commitment to fighting poverty (for Millennium Development Goals). The STAND UP and SPEAK OUT Campaign can be organized as part of already planned activities, such as at the flag raising ceremony, football or other sport matches, etc. The act of standing up must occur dynamically from a seated / kneeling position. At a given signal all participants in a specific location will stand up for at least 1 minute. (People with disabilities will be counted as long as they are present at the Stand Up moment and perform an appropriate action of their choice). During the attempt the participants may engage in other activities such as singing, saying a pledge, waving a flag, etc.
Please note that all STAND UP AND SPEAK OUT events have to take place between 9 p.m. (GMT) on October 16, 2007 to 9 p.m. (GMT) on October 17, 2007 to count towards the Guinness World Record Challenge.
Municipal Association of Nepal (MuAN) has taken the responsibility to communicate about this campaign to all municipalities of Nepal and encourage them to host standup and speak out campaign in their respective municipalities. The Nepali time for Stand Up and speak Out has been scheduled on 17th October, 10:00 am.
